We met Jenny in Mexico, spend some days together and basically became best friends. We after met each other again on the Greek island: Kos. We asked her if she wanted to share het experience about her first solo travel ever.
Right after finishing high school, I got the chance to live in India for one year. I used to volunteer in a city called Vadodara and travel the country by myself for about 4-5 months in total.
Before I left for India, everyone I told this news was scared for me. “But India is very dangerous, especially as a girl” “Are you sure?” were some of the comments I received. Back them I didn’t share their fear, because I knew that I needed a change in environment, I needed to find myself and be totally free in every decision I made. So of course, I went, and it was the best decision I made to this day. I started travelling by myself, learning to trust myself, my instincts and trust the kindness of strangers. Since I was also working in India, I had the unique opportunity to have a deeper insight into the culture then normal backpackers would. From this experience on, I learned that this is exactly how I wanted to travel. So now I live for a few months in one country at a time. Sometimes I work there or I study. Realizing what kind of travelling suits yourself is a beautiful journey in itself. ‘Do I like nature more, or culture? Am in interested in people or history? `. And after finding answers to these questions you get to travel in your own unique way.
There is no one size fits all when it comes to travelling.
